BLACK CAT CABOODLE
BRAND IDENTITY & WEB DESIGN
Black Cat Caboodle is a husband-and-wife team working out of Atlanta, Georgia. They specialize in rare antiquarian books, art and ephemera with an emphasis on the occult and esoteric. Their vast catalog includes topics such as tarot, theosophy, mysticism, witchcraft, folklore and much more.
Operating primarily as an e-commerce site, Black Cat needed assistance in strengthening their online presence. Inspired by the themes and eccentricities of their books, I created a bold brand identity that could help them standout, and a clean, navigable website design to showcase their products and provide their customers with an effortless shopping experience.
Scope:
Logo System / Color & Type / Graphic Elements / Web Design
LOGO SYSTEM
It was important for both the logomark and the favicon to tie in an image of a book to clearly represent the purpose and function of the business. For the logomark, I used the sequence of the books (from closed to open to closed again) to mimic the phases of the moon, which is a common symbol and focus of mysticism and the occult.
COLOR & TYPE
GRAPHIC ELEMENTS
Inspired by the designs of tarot cards, I created unique illustrations to represent each of the categories that Black Cat’s products fall under.
WEB DESIGN
The purpose of the website’s design is to put the books as the central focus by providing multiple pathways to the shop, spotlighting new arrivals and encouraging guests to join a newsletter that can update them on Black Cat’s expanding collection. The overall design ties in repetitious branding elements while maintaining a clean interface that allows for an easy shopping experience.
